Diving in Sri Lanka
Reefs form the backbone of diving in Sri Lanka, with 46 reef sites among 59 locations nationwide. Matara holds the largest concentration, while Trincomalee and Hikkaduwa provide other substantial clusters. Galle, Pasikuda and Kalpitiya broaden the coastal spread, with smaller groups around Colombo and Negombo. The distribution places much of the choice across several distinct coastal areas.
Beyond reefs, the dive sites in Sri Lanka cover ocean settings, sandy bottoms, wrecks, pinnacles and caves. This allows a trip to focus on one terrain or combine several, depending on the chosen coast and area. Navy Museum is the country's most frequently dived named site, while Fort Frederic provides another established point of comparison for planning.
